Our Fibres
One of the founding goals of PLC was to build a truly transparent supply chain — a vision that has guided every decision we've made.
Our Fibres
We take responsibility for every virgin material we source unless it comes from reclaimed and surplus stock (see reclaimed). We pledge to give as much information on sourcing those materials too.
We take accountability for every material we use, always selecting the lowest environmental impact and most ethically considered options across all of our ranges. Starting with our core material group, which carry certifications, we work continuously to develop and define our seasonal offerings.
Cotton
When sourcing virgin cotton for our collections, we choose to source only Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) yarns as the preferred standard. This means that the fibre is grown on certified organic farms and that the entire value chain from farm to yarn is strictly monitored against toxic chemicals, water contamination, and hazards to human and planetary health as well as worker welfare abuses.
Linen and Hemp
We consider linen and hemp to be low impact, as it uses less pesticides and fertilizers to grow.
Viscose and other man-made cellulose
We choose to work with recognisable and branded materials in this category. We pledge to use fibres in this category that are also produced using closed loop and other chemical and solvent recovery systems and processes that reclaim and re-use the chemicals required which significantly reduces the toxicity of effluent compared to conventional suppliers.
Wool
We only use sheep’s wool currently. We will work with partners and suppliers who respect and uphold the Five Freedoms' internationally accepted standards of care for animals, as an absolute minimum.
Reclaimed
We are committed to using remnant, surplus, defected stock, offcuts, and deadstock materials. Our limited-edition collection is made from solely reclaimed fabrics. We use several different suppliers who we will always share on our website. Preferred suppliers below: Nona Source, Last Yarns, Fabric House, L’Atelier des Matières, The Materialist, Fabric Godmother
Trims & Threads
All threads are made from either organic cotton or one of our approved cellulose materials
